The composter is finished. Next to it you can see my worm composter, which was my first attempt at composting kitchen waste. Someday i'll blog about it, too.

Mission accomplished. Looks great.
Are you fixing a handle to it or just rotate by hand?
The drum is not bolted to the rebar, so a handle on the rebar (which i thought about) wouldn't do any good. No, you just have to rotate it by hand. It gets heavy, but the two lips around the rims gives enough of a handle.
That is an awesome project!!! I want one. I think you should manufacture them!
Mike! You've no idea how pertinent these last two posts are for me! I recently went into the Eco-Shop in Greystones to price a 'Big Pig' composter. Janey-mac! I nearly fell over! For the bigger one we'd need I was quoted over €700!!!!!!! My friend Carole has one and says it is amazing, and I'm sure it is but it's also an amazing price. Then a friend suggested we make one, and that we'd find instructions online. I didn't think I wouldn't have far to look!
Thanks so much, for both your instructions and for the link. I'll be sending Jay of to Woodies for supplies at the weekend!
You're a legend!
€700!!! Why am I not surprised. Finding a barrel in Ireland will be hard, but call around and you might get lucky. We used loads of them in Schering-Plough and Oriflame but I believe they were returned for reuse. Maybe you can buy something.
