Hi Mike, do you vary the volume/type of mulch on different drills of collards and compare results?
Hi paddy, i've not had time to work on my blog much lately, but i do blog from the field occasionally. We are testing three mulches versus a no mulch control. They are lespedeza cuttings (a weed that a producer might be able to use), mimosa prunings (an invasive tree, prunings less than 1 cm in diameter), and straw (a common mulch). They are all applied at a rate of 3 tons of dry matter per acre. I'm giving a talk in Houston on some of the results; in fact, i'm in the airport right now!
You are mulching with mimosa? Where are you getting it? You are not planting it are you? Cause I would be very disappointed in you.

No I certainly did not plant mimosa nor lespedeza. The idea is that small farmers may be able to get rid of these invasive species while utilizing the residue. Two birds with one stone.
